Travel Alberta - ATIS (Alberta Tourism Information System) is a comprehensive online platform designed to empower tourism businesses across Alberta. Collaborative UX Design Strategy
Working alongside the Evans Hunt design team, our focus was on the user experience strategy for the ATIS platform while other designers handled the visual design. This collaborative approach allowed us to create a comprehensive solution that addressed both functional and aesthetic requirements for Alberta's diverse tourism industry.
User Research & Tourism Operator Analysis
Extensive research was conducted to understand the needs of Alberta's diverse tourism landscape, from small family-run operations to large-scale events. This research informed the design of user experiences that could serve everything from horseback riding operations to multi-day festivals across the province.
Interface Design & User Experience Prototyping
The user interface experience was designed with detailed prototypes that focused on usability and accessibility. Our designs prioritized clear navigation, intuitive form design, and user-friendly workflows that would work for tourism operators regardless of their technical expertise.
Stakeholder Communication & UX Iteration
Presenting our UX designs and user experience flows to Government of Alberta stakeholders required explaining the user experience rationale and gathering feedback for iteration. This process ensured that the platform would meet government requirements while providing an excellent user experience for Alberta's tourism operators.

User Journey Architecture & Flow Design
Our team designed the comprehensive user journey architecture for the ATIS platform, mapping out complete user flows from initial registration through complex business listing creation. The challenge involved understanding how different tourism operators would navigate the system and designing pathways that could accommodate everything from simple accommodation listings to complex multi-day festival information.
Information Architecture & Content Structure
Structuring the information architecture required careful consideration of Alberta's diverse tourism landscape. This involved designing how different types of tourism businesses would input and organize their information - from basic contact details for small operations to complex scheduling systems for large festivals with multiple venues and events.
User Flow Prototyping & Validation
Detailed prototypes of all user flows were created, testing how different tourism operators would interact with the system. Each flow was designed to handle various scenarios and edge cases, ensuring the platform could serve both simple bed & breakfasts and complex festival organizations with multiple events and venues.
Government Approval Process Management
Managing the government approval process required presenting our user journey designs and flow prototypes to Government of Alberta stakeholders at each step. This involved explaining the UX rationale behind each design decision and iterating based on government feedback to ensure compliance with their requirements and standards.
