Imaginal Airlines is a multi-faceted world-building project by Raj Gill that explores the intersection of performance, technology, and interactive design. As part of this larger creative ecosystem, I contributed to the visual identity, and music al score system that brought the project to life both digitally and in live performance contexts.

Working within Raj Gill's broader artistic vision, I focused on creating the notation system and visual design that would support the live performance elements, requiring seamless integration between web-based tools, live musical performance, and animations to be dynamically displayed using Touch Designer.

Ticket Generator Interface Design

The ticket generator interface was designed to streamline the process of creating personalized tickets for large numbers of attendees. I created clear data input workflows, preview functionality, and validation systems that make the complex task of ticket generation feel simple and reliable.

Musical Notation User Experience

In developing the improvisational notation system, I crafted visual cues that musicians could easily interpret during live performances. The design had to balance artistic expression with functional clarity, enabling spontaneous interpretation while ensuring musical coherence. We conducted testing and gathered feedback from various instrumentalists to enhance the readability and understanding of the symbols.

Ticket Generator Web Application

I developed a custom web application that allows event hosts to generate personalized tickets for all attendees by mapping CSV data to a dynamic ticket template. The system processes attendee information and creates unique, branded tickets that maintain consistency while allowing for individual customization.

The ticket generator features a robust data mapping system that handles various attendee information formats while ensuring data integrity. The template system allows for flexible design updates while maintaining the core branding and functionality required for the event experience.

Musical Score Translation

I worked closely with Raj Gill to translate complex musical scores written in natural language into a structured notation system for live improvisation. This process required understanding both the artistic intent of the original compositions and the practical needs of live performers.

Brand Identity & Visual System

I created the visual identity for the Imaginal Airlines project, developing a cohesive brand system that works across both digital platforms and live event materials. The design language needed to capture the project's experimental and immersive nature while maintaining professional presentation standards.

Interactive Visual Elements

The visual system was designed to work seamlessly with Laine Butler's Touch Designer animations, creating an interactive system for live composing. The visual elements needed to respond dynamically to musical input while providing clear guidance for performers and engaging visuals for audiences.

Each player has their own distinct section of the visual composition, so that the players can focus on their own cues while the ausdience can see all the cues for each player at the same time.

Sound

While no sound design was done for this project, the notation system I developed provides clear, interpretable cues for live musicians while maintaining the experimental and improvisational nature of the original scores. The system allows for spontaneous musical interpretation while providing enough structure to maintain coherence during performance.

The design supports Raj Gill's performance alongside three live improvisers, creating a framework that allows for both individual expression and collective musical exploration. The notation system provides enough guidance to maintain musical coherence while allowing for the spontaneous creativity that defines improvisational performance
